Its history is a journey among empires and civilizations of Trabzon. The town was founded as Trapezus by Greek colonists from Sinope through the nearby Zagnthe settlement around 750 BC,https really thrived under the reign of the Byzantine Empire and its very important trading and military weapons post on the forums. It later became a vital trading center on the Silk Road connecting the Eastern and the Western.

The defining moment came in 1204 when the Byzantine Empire collapsed. For some time, the Greek aristocracy left from Constantinople and conquer the Empire of Trebizond, where Trabzon would be established as the capital. Across nearly 3 centuries, this empire thrived as the last bastion of Byzantine culture, and it bequeathed the Hagia Sophia Museum on the rest of us.

However, the tides turned. In 1461, Trabzon was captured by the rising Ottoman power under Mehmed II. The city remained an important commercial center under Ottoman rule. Trade and crafts flourished in the place in all periods, and commerce was particularly active with Persia and the Caucasus. It was still predominantly Byzantine and then all of a sudden you get mosques and Ottoman architecture inserted in there reflecting the worlds changing city.

Trabzon was incorporated into the Republic of Turkey in 1923 after the dissolution of the Ottoman Empire. But today, it reflects its colourful history of Byzantine, Ottoman and Greek spice, all modernised with a Turkish character. The ancient walls of Trabzon whisper the stories of its past, creating a destination that both history buffs and curious travelers can enjoy.

 personal review about Trabzon Turkey

Trajan: Where History Meets Mountains and the Black Sea.
Trabzon completely surprised me! I am happily lost in this Turkish city on the shores of the Krishna Sea in a delightful combination of history, stunning nature and delicious food.

Starting with history. The Hagia Sophia museum was incredible. Walking through its old hall ideal, I can almost imagine the bojecent songs that once filled the air. And the view from Trabzon Castle is exciting! In my mind I can see forever, the images of wars and empires unfolding here.

But Trabzon is not just about the past. Uzungöl was a trip pure magic. This fairy-tale lake of mine in the Anna Par Hills is a similar attempt at a pictorial Karme Pass. The boat trip was a highlight, with stunning views and a chance to spot some local birds.
Speaking of highlights, don’t miss the food! Fresh seafood advice is yours to rule. I got you the next pail of perfectly cooked hamsi (anchovies) and kekeda (cured bonito). And of course, I had to try Laz böreÄŸi – a flaky peri with delicious valstravra. The bite was a small explosion.

Trabzon Bazaar Walking through the bazaars is an adventure. The stalls brimming with spices, local handicrafts and fresh produce were a feast for the senses. My hag committee may need some discussion, but the friendly atmosphere and unique souvenirs I can make it a fun experience.
Overall, Trabzon was a fantastic song. It makes for a perfect amalgamation of welcoming historical exploration, believable scenic beauty and a grand scenic view. Whether you are a person lover, a nature lover or a foodie, Trabzon has something for everyone. Myself I dream of a hidden gem and can’t wait to tell my friends and family about it!

Trabzon: The Magic Of History & Beauty Combined

Trabzon stole my heart! It was this obscure Black Sea beauty that turned my world upside down: a land of history, wilds, and an exceptional food scene.

History buffs, rejoice! It was like a time warp inside the Hagia Sophia Museum. Its distinctive mosaics and its Byzantine design made it seem as though ancient whispers lived in its walls. Trabzon Castle had beautiful topographic views, narrating the stories of the empires that prospered and perished.

Yet still Trabzon is a modern city. A day trip to Uzungöl was absolutely spellbinding. It was this magical lake surrounded by incredible mountains that looked as if it had been lifted from a fairytale. The best part was our ride to the boat passing an absolutely beautiful vista of many local birds.

Attention all foodies who love a serving of indulgence on a plate. As a city set on the Black Sea, it is not surprising that one of the most popular things to do in Trabzon is to eat fresh fish. I gorged on plate after plate of succulent hamsi and lakerda, while the Laz böreÄŸi turned out to be revelation – a seasoning bolt in a flappy dough.

The Trabzon Bazaar was a place to find anything – For me it was a case of going on an adventure. The bright markets full of spices, local arts and crafts, fresh food, bustling, noisy and smelly. If nothing else, my lack of bargaining ability combined with the friendly vibe and interesting items to buy made for a nice little shopping experience.

Verdict Yes, I enjoyed Trabzon very much. One where history murmurs through the brick of buildings, landscapes stun and food entices like nothing else. Trabzon – If you want a new adventure to live through in Turkey, you should definitely get to Trabzon.
