Sanliurfa Turkey! I have a piece of my heart in this small town rich in history in southeast Turkey. You’ll feel like you’re flipping through the pages of a history book as old stone ruins mingle with the living haberdashery air raids of modern rubble.
Yes, the summer heat was sweltering, but that only made the Tangy Turnip Gulp (fermented turnip juice – literally) even better. Also, the food at Zeugma Kebab was simply heavenly — juicy, marinated meat cooked to perfection.
The best part of my trip was Gobeklitepe. Blooming Paleolithic structures lingered in my mind for days, reminding me of a possible lost civilization. This view from Urfa Castle was exciting! The city, drenched in history, spills out below.
Speaking of history, I was surprised to see this mosque without mentioning the Halil-ur-Rehman Mosque. Here it was felt that Father Abe, a man revered in Islam, Christianity and Judaism, was somehow alive. Feeding the sacred carp in the pool was truly an extraordinary experience.
