In Çeşme Turkey, the Castle sits above the city with views of the sea beyond the beach. Stone houses, designer shops and the former Greek village of Alakati. Diners can enjoy local seafood dishes at restaurants overlooking the harbour. Çeşme has something for everyone, enlivening the hearts of visitors.

History of Çeşme Turkey

ÇeÅŸme Turkey has a history that goes back hundreds of years. The name ÇeÅŸme, meaning “fountain” in Persian, reflects its own history. The first recorded population of the area was the inhabitants of Habar in the Bronze Age and remains of a settlement associated with a harbor reveal the similarity of the site’s habitation over the centuries.

Shem flourished during this period despite the ups and downs of warring empires. It flourished as an important port city during the Ottoman period. Çeşme Castle, built in 1508 under the orders of Sultan Bayezid II, is a legacy of that time. The city was not its downfall as it was captured by the Venetians and suffered a disastrous defeat to the Russian navy in 1770 at the Battle of Chesme.

A hundred years ago, Sheme was a Greek city. After the defeat in the Greco-Turkish War, the population changed: the Muslim population settled in the region. Similarly, with its Ottoman Cetin today, Çeşme Turkey illustrates the same continuum, where historic Ottomans coexist with vibrant Turks.

Personal Review about Çeşme Turkey

Every evening, the Aegean sun lights the sky in reds and oranges, and the turquoise waters take on an otherworldly glow. I whiled away the long days on Ilica Beach with sand as smooth and soft as icing sugar between my toes.

Wandering through the colorful stone streets of Alacati Bazaar with its beautiful stone-framed houses and souvenirs made me feel like stepping back in time. One evening I discovered the most magical lantern-lit courtyard restaurant and had the best fish meal of my life.

No ÇeÅŸme Turkey trip is complete without diving into history. ÇeÅŸme Castle, photo by Stephen Weaver While the views from ÇeÅŸme Castle were spectacular, the ÇeÅŸme Archaeological Museum, housed in a medieval caravanserai, provides context on the town’s eventful history.

So, one afternoon, I went on a beautiful boat trip with Aegean Chu. Venture into secret coves accessible only by sea for long swims and breaks in the ocean.

There’s more to ÇeÅŸme than just chill-out. One evening I headed out for the lively nightlife of Alacati. Buzzworthy bars spread live music on the streets in all directions. For a little local specialty [Photo #23], I ordered a toasted “kumru,” which was stuffed with sausage, cheese, and tomato – yum!

Çeşme Turkey has something to suit all moods  relaxation (hit the beach), exploration (take yourself to a museum), adventure (race through the ocean on a jet ski) and loud music (put on your dancing shoes and explore the night. scene). Where you can truly relax, treat yourself and create lasting memories.

Visitor review of Çeşme Turkey

Çeşme Turkey was a revelation! Sunsets are famous for a reason and just look at the fiery colors that the sky always wears at night. The most beautiful were the beaches, especially Ilica. It creates images of fine, powdery beaches and clear turquoise waters with excellent snorkeling opportunities.
Alakati A picturesque unexpected narrow street with old stone houses, Alakati Bazaar was historically a unique, end-of-the-earth place. I enjoyed the most perfectly fresh seafood under twinkling fairy lights.

For history buffs, this is a must-see. ÇeÅŸme Turkey Castle presents an absolutely spectacular sight while the city’s Archeology Museum is a glorious display of a long history.

ÇeÅŸme Turkey is not all relaxation. The Adriatic coastal enclaves of Göltürkbükü and Türkbükü hosted the best stargazing, while the nightlife buzzed with live music from the same cool spots every evening in the trendy bars of Alacati. The energy was contagious! I also had to have at least one “kumru” – a toasted sandwich with local goodness.

Covering everything from beach lovers to history lovers, adrenaline junkies to party monsters, Çeşme had it all. A place to relax, indulge and create memories to last a lifetime. I will definitely be back!
