Cappadocia Turkey! Wow, what a place! It literally felt like stepping into a different world. That fairy chimney was exciting. We had an early morning hot air balloon ride and waking up before dawn to see the sun first appear over that magical rock formation, I will have it forever. It makes the entire landscape look like a giant playground.

The open-air museum in Goreme was interesting to see. Those subterranean cities and frescoes in some remote places were lovely.

Some of the valleys we hiked in- Love Valley was pretty hilarious, Devrant Valley got our hearts racing as it triggered all sorts of patterns in our minds with rock formations and outrageous shapes from Rose Valley- probably my favourite, especially at sunset! I had sore feet to prove it in the end, but I paid for those opinions.

A cave hotel, what a horror! The room was high with a beautifully carved ceiling and nook – it was ancient but still felt cozy. Our delicious Turkish food was very tasty! Given the tasty kebabs, cooking in very cute little clay pots as well as finishing the baklava was delicious! The place was full of friendly and welcoming vibes (even the stray cats seemed happy!).

Note: It’s very crowded — especially at the popular viewpoints We got caught in a small rain shower one afternoon, so be sure to pack an umbrella.

Overall, Cappadocia Turkey was a trip to remember! It offers history, nature, food and hospitality! This place will leave you speechless I am so excited to tell everyone at home about this place!

Goreme’s open-air museum is a history buff’s paradise. Visiting those ancient churches carved into the mountains was a time portal. Those brilliant figures were Byzantine frescoes that showed us history through color and form. There were also underground cities – a triumph of human resourcefulness, and an indelible example that people will do whatever it takes to survive. We spent our days in the valley roaming around them. Love Valley makes us smile thanks to its one-of-a-kind rock formations, and Devrant Valley lets our imaginations run wild thanks to its strange formations. The Rose Valley itself is reddened like a rosy love letter by the setting sun. The walk up and down the valley was physically demanding, but the views across northern Norway made it worthwhile.

On the subject of rewards, staying in a cave hotel was reward enough! With a vaulted ceiling and stone walls it felt both ancient in an eerie way as well as homely. It was an unexpected treat of delicious Turkish cuisine and a plethora of complimentary flavors. The tasty kebabs cooked in a sealed clay pot were different and novel. The locals were very hospitable and welcoming which really added to the homely feel of this city.
