Ankara surprised me! It was supposed to be just a historical town, but found it to be quite a mix of old and new.

A Whisper of History: (Anitkabir): I felt looking at the city, the museum of Anatolian civilization here was a gold mine, from the delicate Hittite reliefs to the Roman mosaics of the walls of the Ankara fortress, I felt I had stepped back hundreds of years.

This Modern Wonder: After visiting the Kocatep Mosque, I was absolutely mesmerized by the Kocatepe Mosque. The size and the light made it shine was absolutely unforgettable. A visit to the top of the Atakule Tower also provided a startling view of the sprawling city of Ankara, which seemed huge to me.

Culture Tidbits: One of the treasures we found on a random pilgrimage was the Ethnographic Museum. Turkish culture was represented with colorful rugs, traditional clothing and everyday items.

A quick escape: Walking through Hamamunu felt like a breath of fresh air, it was refreshing to see more of the buildings in their original Ottoman state as we wandered the streets busy with tourists, cafes and small shops. Aimir Lake… a beautiful little paradise where you can enjoy your picnic and relaxation…

Anitakabir: Bringing history alive, it literally took my breath away not only because of its grandeur and picturesque scenery but also because it was here that I learned more about Atatürk. The Anatolian Civilization Museum is a time capsule from Hittite to Roman mosaics. Even a stroll around the capital at Ankara Citadel had an imperial feel.

Here’s a modern beauty: the Kocatepe Mosque animates the grandeur of the old_ resetting my view of a mosque. It was stunning in size, and lit up at night. Atakule Tower (from which the expanse of the city was visible all around)

Cultural Gems: The Turkish Museum was not just any place, it was the ethnographic museum where Turkish life was shown in traditional costumes, colors and everyday objects. Ankara Opera House epitomizes elegance with magnificent ballet performances.

Out of the ordinary: Walking the streets of Hamamunu was like a time travel. Historic Ottoman houses, cozy cafes and hidden shops present an alternative Ankara. And the peaceful picture of Aimir Lake where you can have a picnic in peace of mind.

Ankara continues to surprise me. A city of whispering history, blossoming modern life and rich culture. Ankara in Turkey is a perfect example of an ideal, low capital experience!
